Frederick (Fritz) Priddat was born in Germany in 1924, studied in Hanover Germany and came to Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada in 1961.  He settled in Victoria, British Columbia, off the west coast of Canada.  Priddat Studio works are in oil, watercolour and copper etchings featuring prairie landscapes, and BC coastal views. Lloyd G. Nowlan was a prolific Maritime artist from Pictou County in Nova Scotia, Canada. Born in 1915 and died in 1999. He descended from original settlers to the area who arrived in the 1700's.

An example of his work, made into lovely pieces of wall plaque art by Art in Black, Nova Scotia.  Shaped as a porthole and employing genuine antique fisherman ropes reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean as a terrific border accent.

A lovely port scene entitled "Malpque Bay, PEI" (Prince Edward Island), and a great old schooner ship entitled "Beating the Storm to Port".

Maud Lewis was born in rural Nova Scotia in 1903 and died in 1970.  She had no formal training and was famous for depicting scenes of rural life in Nova Scotia.  The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia had her home restored and it is on permanent display. The Art Gallery exhibits her paintings across Canada.

This is a reproduced painting entitled "Hay Wagon and Cove", translated into an embroidery stitch kit for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia by Marilyn Tucker under the brand name "Fairwind" in 1998.

  1. Maude Lewis' story is a fascinating one. Love the idea of a needlework kit featuring her folkart.
