Baribocraft Baribo-Maid Canada Vintage Woodenware

I have written several blogs about the iconic Canadian woodenware trademarked Baribocraft and Baribo-Maid. Produced since 1922 in Quebec Canada, and made from Canadian maple wood, it became a staple in households worldwide in the 20th Century, passed down generation to generation due to its high quality construction. Original production ceased in the 1970s.

There were plans by the current trademark owner to resurrect Baribocraft in limited models, using original designs to be produced in Canada, but, sadly, that is not to be.

We must continue to seek out and enjoy vintage Baribocraft and Baribo-Maid items!

I have put together a showcase of vintage designs I have found over the years.

  1. Your Baribocraft combined salt/pepper mill image seems to be the only one of it's kind online. Is it a rare item?

  2. The combined mill is the only one I've ever seen, so I would say it is rare. Since Baribocraft stopped production in the 1970s, all items are only available on the after market, and either they did not produce many of the combined mill or folks are hanging on to theirs and not offering them up for sale!

  3. If found one at Goodwill on Saturday for $2.00. Works perfectly and only needs a bit of wood seasoning to bring out the wood a bit. A friend of mine already wants it, but I am going to hold on to it. Even if it is worth more than $2 :)

  6. Has anyone ever come across anything marked "DIMENSION Baribocraft'? I have acquired a nice adjustable wine bottle stand with stainless steel base marked "DIMENSION Baribocraft" with a made in Canada Stamp and a name which I can't quite make out.

    1. I have not come across Dimension Baribocraft, however, perhaps it was the metal company that made the stainless base, for the joint venture. It could have been a purpose made one-off as a promotional piece or a sample. Very intriguing! Rgds M

  7. I have a Baribo-Maid rolling pin that my mom gave me. It has broken (ball bearings have loosened and a few fell out). Is there any way I can get replacements? It means the world to me and cannot find much info about fixing.

    1. Sorry, but only hobbyists may be able to help you. Baribocraft rolling pins haven't been made since the 70s. The ball bearings may be a standard size that could be found in a Craft or a hardware store, but to put them back in may not be possible. Rgds M

  9. Hi,
I recently bought a Baribo Maid rolling pin from a thrift store. It said Baribo Maid on both sides. Today, I bought another rolling pin, from the same store, which says "Baribo Maid BALL BEARING" on one side...perhaps the other side had markings too but are worn off. The handles have swirls. The whole pin is wooden and the handles have the same colour as the pin.
I tried to find the new ball bearing pin online but no luck. Is it an authentic Baribo Maid pin and when was it manufactured?
I have never seen a rolling pin with ball bearings. What is the purpose of ball bearings in a pin? I can hear a jingle when I roll it. I hope the metal from the ball bearings does not get into the dough being rolled.
    Thanks,
    Sue.
