ARA Jeretzian Toy Wool Animals
ARA Jeretzian toy animals are constructed from 100% wool and were hand made in Vienna Austria beginning in the early 1950s into the mid-1970s.

ARA created over 200 posable creations ranging in size from 1/2 inch (1 cm) up to 10 inches (25 cm).

Some animals were distributed under the name of Pocket Pets, with the tag line The World's Loveliest Animals, throughout Austria, France, Germany and USA. In the USA the boxes were also marked A.J. Ferber Co Inc Atlantic City NJ, as the distributor.

The pets were constructed from a combination of wool chenille pipe cleaners and needle felted wool on a wire structure with air brush detail and cute props. This attention to detail has made them a popular collectible as companions for dolls, teddies or in dollhouse displays.

Earlier animals were boxed in clear acetate, with a garland border of white animal figures. The box included a base label inside, the ARA story printed in German on one side and Hand Made Austria beside a blue fox logo superimposed on a world globe, on the reverse.

Pocket Pets were mounted on a gold carded inner base, within their clear acetate boxes. Printed on the edges of the base, in French, English and German, The World's Loveliest Animals, and the stylized ARA name.

Later, the boxes were made of green and gold card with a clear acetate front window lid, the ARA story printed on the back in German and English. Some pets had an attached cord as hanging ornaments.

Themed animals expanded ARA's offerings. A black poodle with his arm in a sling and a bandaged foot carries a message of Komm gut Heim or Get Home Safely.
