Hi All
I don't find many in my neck of the woods, but when I do I LOVE to poke around in all the rooms and boxes of an ESTATE SALE! When someone is clearing house and open their doors to one and all, it can be amazing what Treasures can be discovered!
I attended an Estate Sale last week and found some wonderful Vintage/Antique VICTORY WOODEN JIGSAW puzzles from England, c1930's! Boxes were a little dusty but the contents were pristine! I didn't even realize that jigsaw puzzles could be made from real wood! Some pieces are shaped as people, animals and other items! What fun!
There had been a Crafter/Sewer in the household, and I found lots of vintage Sewing, Knitting, and Embroidery books from the 1970's and earlier! Great to see the old styles and patterns, and terrific reference books on How To's for stitchery! There were also ANCIENT needlebooks. The old cards that sewing needles came in, with wonderful old 1930's pictures on the covers from England and Germany! Here's an example:
Amongst some miscellaneous ornaments, and figurines was this interesting NETSUKE. Though damaged, it is still very appealing with its strange design. Netsuke were used in Japan to secure the ties on robes. Most have holes for the ties to go through but others, such as the one I found, the ties were wound around the figure. Usually crafted/carved from natural materials such as bone or ivory, this one has a lovely patina but is missing one leg and one foot. Is this 4 Sumo Wrestlers, or is it just 2 ? Hmmmm!
What lovely dinnerware I found! A set of Susie Cooper England Art Deco "Dresden Spray" Pattern Tiny Espresso Coffee Cups and saucers! The colours pop! Beautiful turquoise and pink!
My advice? If you see a sign "Estate Sale Here", run in and see what Treasures can be found! A trip down memory lane, or a great new game or Home Decor item could be waiting for you!
All of these items can be viewed in my store! Just visit www.mandicrafts.com for these and MANY other collectibles and Teddy Bears!
Happy Hunting!
