There are lots of vintage handbag collectors out there! Not only a lovely display but usable too! Talk about having a purse or handbag for every outfit!
There are so many different styles, designers, and materials that a lot of collectors "specialize" in certain eras, or themes.
A popular 1940's "theme" is TELEPHONE CORD handbags. Made from skinny stretchy telephone cords in a myriad of colours, many handbags are in the box style. I haven't seen one attributed to a brand or maker, but they are readily recognizable! See below for a handbag with brass hardware and fashioned with pale red military canvas!
Harry Levine USA handbags are stylish and trendy! A popular designer for any collector, made from high quality materials, and always desirable!
BEADED handbags are a big draw! Intricate designs, in glass seed beads, can be a great wedding gift or create a beautiful display. An interesting vintage bag made in Czechoslovakia, is a lovely example!
Moradabad India, is famous for producing high quality brass & copper items, and is often referred to as "Brass City". An unusual BRASS PILLOW HANDBAG, about 20 to 30 years old, in a Chatelaine design, is a superb example! Who needs jewelry when you can carry this wonderful evening purse?
Don't overlook toy bags! An offshoot to handbag collecting can be found under TOY BAGS! Character bags, both vintage and modern, have a strong following! Davy Crockett was a popular Western Character. Made from a plastic-vinyl by Neptune Plastics Inc , this toy "Original Dispatch Case" was made to look like the leather Native Style bags used in the wild west!
DISNEY shows up in all types of items, including hand bags! A child's bag in leather-look vinyl has a beaded heart painted with Mickey & Minnie Mouse! Likely dating to the 1960's to 1970's due to the "Walt Disney Productions" stamp, often referred to in Collector circles as WDP.
