Hello from Las Vegas!
(Written at 9:30 pm Saturday Day 1 of LOL – Day 5 of Vegas!)
We mostly only saw the inside of a meeting room today, though a very posh, meeting room, with large crystal chandeliers and nicely upholstered chairs! I had barely an hour to get ready to go downstairs for 7:30 am and spent the lunch hour just checking my emails, and my dinner 2-hours cleaning my laptop of an awful security malware virus that wouldn’t go away unless I paid them $49!! Lee found me the website that gave instructions on how to clean it, and it worked! So much for paying for an internet connection today....I was only actually doing any work for about 10 minutes!
The speakers for Lynn’s first day of LOL were great! The famous Mel & Steve show presentation on bra’s had some added hilarity along with being informative! Steve demonstrated how he stands to have up to 300 bras hung off his arms when out shopping with Mel! I’m sure I saw some of the male attendees taking notes and one asked Steve to define picks & pulls! The fabulous Diva Dawn was talking to ME I’m sure with her organization presentation! We need to trade homes for a couple of weeks, so I could go home to a well organized inventory area with all things sorted, numbered & easily accessed, and all my accounting records up to date! The introduction to Worthpoint, Vendio, and Kabbage were all well done & Will, CEO of Worthpoint also spoke on Antiques and gave us one of his exciting auctions to watch! The auction was ending just as the meeting was wrapping up for the evening, so we watched it live on the big screen. A 1907 Turkey Call, started at .99 cents & ending for BIG BUCKS! The cheering was deafening when we called him to congratulate him when it was over! Definitely something to watch for at estate sales! He even called back so we could listen to the call work! Lisa Suttora gave some great pointers on how to source and buy new items, and reminded us to always be on the lookout even when going about normal daily activities. Lynn spoke on research. When to do it and what resources are available. Many attendees had brought strange items for research/ID and Lynn, Mo and Carmen worked hard to demonstrate live, what steps to take to figure out makers, origin, or even what an item may be! There will soon be a forum on Worthpoint to ask the experts questions on collectibles!
Meeting all of the attendees has been wonderful. We each had the opportunity to introduce ourselves and give our store ID and selling niche. Putting faces to names is the best! Comparing stories, trading scores, hearing how others handle certain situations, and simply being in a room full of folks who understand what you do, is very motivating!
The time springs forward tonight, so there’s a lost hour of sleep to prepare for another full day! I will try and snap some shots tomorrow to share a glimpse of the venue and the many eBayers in attendance.
