Huronia Pottery Ltd - Fourth in Canadiana Series
We journey back to Canadiana Art Pottery to visit Huronia Pottery.
Huronia Pottery Ltd was founded by Tom Hrcek, a Czech immigrant who had worked at Blue Mountain Pottery as a mold maker. Located 21 miles west of Collingwood, in Meaford, Ontario Canada, Huronia closed in the mid 1970's.
Huronia is known for their unique REFLOW flame glaze technique, commonly found as a vertical flame stripe as compared to horizontal applications of other potteries. Reflow can be found in blue & black, caramel/gold & brown and red & orange.
Also popular are the Huronia matte glazes, reminiscent of the Arts & Crafts movement in the USA. Solid glazes in matte and gloss are found on some figurines.
Huronia made bowls, mugs, serving pieces, vases and figurines.
I have found both paper foil labels and ink stamps on Huronia pieces. Each have a Tepee-like logo in the centre formed from a stylized "H" and "P", with "Huronia Pottery Ltd Made in Canada" printed in a bordered circle surrounding the centre logo.
An example of REFLOW Flame Glaze in caramel/gold & brown on a pair of Candlestick Holders with a rare paper foil original label on the bases.
