Seagull Pewter Pugwash, Nova Scotia Canada - 12th in Canadiana Series

Canada's largest producer of fine pewter, Seagull Pewter, has humble beginnings. Located on the Northumberland shore of Nova Scotia in the seaside village of Pugwash, Seagull began in 1978, by co-founders Bonnie Bond and John Caraberis, as a 3 person operation out of a farmhouse on Rabbittown Rd in Pugwash, making sterling silver jewellery.  Seagull began to grow when they switched to using pewter for their jewellery.

Now the state-of-the-art factory employs more than 360 and exports to over 23 countries.  The Seagull Pewter factory retail shop in Pugwash attracts many tourists who are able to tour the factory as well as purchase many lovely pewter items such as picture frames, tabletop accessories, jewellery and household items.

Seagull always signs their pieces on the reverse, usually with the creation date, as space allows.

Items are designed and created by local craftsmen and then molds are made from the originals and cast in fine pewter.  Finally, each piece is buffed and hand finished.

Pewter is an alloy of tin, minimum requirement of 92% tin, and Seagull exceeds this minimum and is 100% lead free (food safe).  Pewter does not tarnish and can be carefully hand washed.

Jewellery is one of the most popular of Seagull's items.  Here is a brooch, also supplied with a hang tag as well as being marked on the reverse.

Designs can be clean and simple, as illustrated by this pill box with just a butterfly motif on the lid, and otherwise unadorned, in a brushed finish pewter....
